Wood Doors FAQ
Will a mahogany door warp without an overhang?
Will a mahogany door warp without an overhang?
It can, in southern climates. Direct sun and rain cycles cause cupping and checking in real wood. We strongly recommend a covered entry — or step up to our WeatherGuard mahogany, which is thermally modified to stand up to the weather without an overhang.
What's the difference between this and WeatherGuard mahogany?
What's the difference between this and WeatherGuard mahogany?
Our WeatherGuard mahogany is thermally modified (a process called torrefaction) — baked at 400–600°F to drive out the organic matter that lets wood rot and warp, so it stands up to weather and never needs re-staining. Regular mahogany is the same species un-baked, with all its authentic wood character (and its maintenance needs).
